Southwest boosts cargo capacity

US player Southwest Airlines will increase its belly-freight capacity by up to 125 metric tonnes this year.
The carrier will add 20 737-800s to its fleet during 2012. Further orders include 70 737-700s between now and 2016.
The airline is focusing on its Atlanta cargo system, helped by an expansion of space at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The carrier’s new 2,415m2 cargo facility will open on 12 February.
Southwest has no dedicated freighters but sells belly-capacity on over 500 737s flying to 72 cities in the country.
