Lufthansa Cargo expects rose volumes to bloom

Lufthansa Cargo is expecting to transport around 800 tonnes of roses ahead of Valentine’s Day.
The German airline said that most flowers transported for the romantic celebration originate in either Kenya or South America and are transported as quickly as possible at a constant temperature of between two-four degrees Celsius to ensure they remain as fresh as possible.
The carrier said: "The roses are harvested several times a day at the flower farms where they are cultivated and then immediately placed in water and cooled.
"Following sorting and packing, the flowers are taken directly to the airport and loaded onto the Lufthansa aircraft, where they are kept at the perfect temperature in the cargo hold."
Lufthansa said that the roses are kept at Frankfurt airport for a short while before being transported to destinations across Europe.
