Cargolux pilot’s union stages 24 hour walk-out

Cargolux pilots belonging to the LCGB union have called a 24 hour walk-out from 3am this morning (July 23).
A statement by the union, issued at 08.00 (CET),  claimed that the “warning action” by its members has so far seen “five out of seven Cargolux Airplanes” remain on the ground since the walk-out began.
But a Cargolux spokesperson said: "We cannot confirm that flights are grounded."
A statement will be issued this afternoon by the European all-cargo carrier, added the spokesperson.
The LCGB said: “Despite all previous efforts by the LCGB, a last-chance meeting between the Cargolux management and union representatives resulted in no agreement.
"In light of this totally unacceptable situation, the LCGB has launched a 24 hour long warning action by the Cargolux pilots.”
The long-running dispute with the European all-cargo airline involves allegations over the safety culture at carrier. Cargolux has declined in the past to comment directly on the allegations by the union.
In mid-June, Cargolux told Air Cargo News that vice president, head of aviation safety, Mattias Pak had been appointed group aviation safety officer with the additional new responsibility of supervising the operational safety standards of both Cargolux in Luxembourg and Cargolux Italia in Milan.
Cargolux also created the new position of human factors manager who will participate in the selection of pilots of all group companies, at the same time providing coaching to pilots and be available to help with stress management or other personal problems.
