    Air cargo group Tiaca looks to add fourth pillar

Air cargo association Tiaca is planning to add consultancy services as its fourth pillar, while it will also continue to push for greater membership from across the globe and improve revenues.

Speaking to Air Cargo News ahead of the Caspian Air Cargo Summit taking place in Baku over the coming days, Tiaca secretary general Vladimir Zubkov revealed the organisation was hoping to add consultancy to its three established pillars of advocacy, networking and training.

He explained that the consultancy pillar will initially take the form of events and training consultancy, for example adding an air cargo element to existing conferences and exhibitions.

With these events promoting the benefits of air cargo to businesses and governments, Tiaca hopes they will then seek to establish or enhance air cargo supply chains and that it will be able to provide consultancy services to help with the development.

Zubkov revealed that Tiaca had held initial talks with conference and exhibition organiser Routes about adding an air cargo element to its World event as begins to develop the idea.

The plans are set to be discussed at the Tiaca’s executive summit taking place in Miami from October 18.

Zubkov added that the organisation was also continuing to push for greater global representation, with Africa and Latin America two areas of focus.

Earlier this year, TIACA collaborated with UN aviation body ICAO to hold an African air cargo conference in Addis Ababa and held several “good meetings” on how the organisations can continue to work together to promote and develop air cargo in Africa.

It has also appointed Sanjeev Gadhia, founder and chief executive of Nairobi, Kenya-headquartered Astral Aviation, as well as vice chairman of the African Airlines Association (AFRAA) Cargo Task Force, as a board member.

On Latin America, Tiaca is also organising an event to promote air cargo to ICAO’s South American group after its executive summit. The group has also started translating its weekly newsletter into Spanish.

Zubkov also continues to attend events in areas of the world with minimal representation at Tiaca to help promote the organisation and air cargo in general.

For instance, as well as the Caspian Air Cargo Summit, he also attended a World Customs Organization event on e-commerce in Tbilisi.

Zubkov said that these moves would also help improve the assocation’s financial position through increased membership and consultancy fees.

He said that like much of the air cargo industry, the organisation has come under pressure since the financial crisis and has to look for new areas of revenues and ways to improve membership numbers.

Finally, Zubkov said the organisation is also looking to become more relevant to members and has formed a think tank organisation made up of 12 members to brain storm ideas and try to better understand what is important to the industry.

These ideas will be fed back to the board which can make adjustments to Tiaca’s work programme based on the findings.
