Ethiopian to fly into Jakarta

Ethiopian Airlines has confirmed that it is to launch a three times a week service to Jakarta, Indonesia, on July 17.
The route, to be flown by B787-8 Dreamliner aircraft, will represent the first direction connection between Africa and Indonesia, and Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Tewolde GebreMariam observed: “Our new service will further cement our growing footprint in Asia.”
A statement from the Addis Ababa-headquartered carrier pointed out that Indonesia, one of the most populated countries in the world, has a rapidly growing economy and is an emerging manufacturing hub.
It said that African and Indonesian trade, investment and tourism ties are “set to grow in an exponential manner and our direct flights will make a significant contribution in the enhancement of Africa-Indonesia cooperation”.
The airline further confirmed that it plans to increase the frequency of flights to Jakarta to daily, “very quickly in line with our Vision 2025 strategic roadmap of connecting Africa with the major trading centres of the world through our fast expanding global network.”
Only earlier this month (May), it was announced that Ethiopian is to launch four times a week flights from its home hub of Addis Ababa Bole International Airport to Manchester Airport in December.
The carrier will also operate this route, which will initially at least transit via Brussels in Belgium, with B787 aircraft.
