IAG Cargo opens third round of Hangar 51 disruptor funding

Air cargo disruptors have a further chance to secure development funding from IAG Cargo, as the major European carrier seeks new ideas or products to optimise cargo operations.
IAG Cargo, in collaboration with British Airways and Avios, is now accepting applications for its third Hangar 51 Travel Tech Accelerator Programme, inviting start-ups to apply for a ten-week long intensive accelerator and mentorship programme.
Up to ten finalists will be able to present their final progress to the IAG Group’s senior management at a Demo Day in London, with a potential multi-million pound investment to scale their business up for grabs.
The initiative invites start-ups of all sizes and growth stages from around the world to join the industry-leading accelerator programme to transform the aviation industry.
IAG Cargo said in a statement "The Hangar 51 global innovation programme goes beyond a traditional accelerator and offers disruptive companies ten weeks of co-working alongside IAG.
"IAG Cargo is seeking applicants with ideas or products to optimise cargo operations – this could include future cargo logistics such as shipping analytics, asset tracking, measurement and monitoring tools, smarter operations, such as big data analytics or robotic processes, and new products or wildcard disruptive ideas that have the potential to reshape the industry.
"Applicants will receive personalised mentoring and access to a vast network of industry contacts and experts from across the Group. Successful applicants will also showcase their achievements at a Demo Day before an audience comprised of the Group’s senior management team and investors. This will give them the opportunity to receive potential investment from IAG’s multimillion pound digital fund to scale their business."
Lynne Embleton, chief executive of IAG Cargo, said: “There is huge scope for digital to enhance and transform the airfreight industry. Through Hangar 51, IAG Cargo is excited to offer start-ups a chance to embed themselves in our business, to test and develop their products and have the opportunity to grow on a global scale.
"We are looking forward to working alongside the next generation of logistics and technology companies to unlock opportunities and enhance our customer experience.”
Start-ups are encouraged to submit their applications to join Hangar 51 at www.hangar51.com. Applications close at midnight BST on August 5, 2018.
