Business blooms in the desert for UPS

UPS is to open a new package processing hub in the town of Goodyear, near Phoenix, Arizona. The first phase is expected to begin operating later this to provide additional capacity for lightweight small e-commerce packages –  a growing business in Arizona and the southwest, says UPS.
Full completion is planned for late 2019, when the new facility comprise 970,000sq ft of advanced technology and sortation equipment and employ more than 1,500 people.
The site will include infrastructure for alternative fuels and a customer centre.
President of the UPS Desert Mountain district, Ken Cherry, said: “We’re investing for growth and to give opportunity to our people to build skills for tomorrow’s economy.”
President and chief executive of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, Chris Camacho, added: "The decision by UPS to establish a regional operations center in Greater Phoenix is indicative of the growing e-commerce industry.” He said that the location would put UPS close to a large consumer base, as well as creating a considerable number of jobs.
