Emirates to fly into Phnom Penh

Dubai-based Emirates is to launch a daily B777-300ER passenger connection with the Cambodian capital of Phnom Penh on July 1. A new Dubai–Yangon-Phnom Penh route is to be created.
The launch of daily services from Dubai to Phnom Penh will coincide with the introduction of a direct, non-stop route between Dubai and Hanoi on the same day (currently the Vietnamese city is reached only after a stop in Yangon).
Phnom Penh, located in the south-central region of Cambodia, is the most populous city in the country.
In terms of cargo, garments and clothing are expected to be popular exports out of Phnom Penh carried on the route.
In April last year, Emirates Skycargo announced that it was offering the capacity of a weekly freighter service to Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia – the Middle East carrier’s thirteenth all-cargo destination in the Far East.
The Dubai-hubbed operator launched the service with a leased MD-11 freighter aircraft, providing dedicated outsourced capacity for 80 tonnes of cargo.
From Phnom Penh, cargo is transported via a trucking network to reach other cities and regions in Cambodia.
Hiran Perera, senior vice president of Emirates SkyCargo, noted at the time: “Cambodia’s air cargo market is growing at a robust rate, with Europe and the US being key export markets.
“Establishing a presence in this market will position Emirates SkyCargo to benefit from the healthy growth potential,” he concluded.
