Expanding ASL signs up for three 737 conversions

ASL Aviation has signed up for three freighter conversions from Aeronautical Engineers Inc (AEI) following on from raising $110m late last year.
AEI will provide the Dublin-based firm with three 11 pallet position B737-400SF freighters in May, June and July of this year.
ASL already lists 12 of this aircraft type in its fleet of 69 aircraft.
The B737-400F has proved popular with express companies. For instance, TNT Airways, which has been linked as a potential takeover target of ASL, has a fleet of 14 of the aircraft.
An ASL spokesperson said it was too early to discuss an exact role and destination for the aircraft at this stage.
The order comes shortly after ASL Aviation reached a funding agreement worth $110m from two banks for “ongoing growth and expansion”.
ASL’s French division was also in the headlines recently when it was linked as the lessor of a B737 freighter used by Amazon in Europe to cover a demand spike in line with the peak-season rush.
The AEI B737-400SF is the only passenger to freighter conversion product that offers operators ten full height 88” x 125” container positions.
The medium-range single isle aircraft are being converted at AEI-owned Commercial Jet’s Miami facility.
The aircraft have the construction numbers 25177, 24917 and 26065. According to airfleets.net the last operators of 25177 was Eastern Skyjets, while the other two were last operated by FlySafair.
Two of the aircraft first flew in 1991, while the other first hit the skies in 1992.
