Shanghai surge: PACTL sees half year tonnages up 10.9%

Shanghai’s Pudong International Airport Cargo Terminal (PACTL) saw a 7.2% rise in airfreight volumes to nearly 130,000 tonnes in June versus same month 2014, resulting in a 10.9% year-on-year growth for the first six months of 2015 to 762,000 tonnes.
The 2015 half-year cargo throughput, the highest in the company’s history, was due to the “ongoing positive development of international imports” and a “strong increase” in domestic exports during the second quarter of 2015.
PACTL gained 10 new customer airlines during the first six months of 2015.
Lutz Grzegorz, vice president of PACTL, said: "We’ve been able to continue the strong performance that we achieved in 2014 throughout the first half of this year. First of all, this is linked to recent market trends. Among other things, we’ve registered ongoing positive developments in international imports throughout the year so far, especially from Europe and the US.
"We’ve also been able to continuously develop our customer base, particularly in the domestic market. We therefore achieved a strong increase in domestic exports during the second quarter. As far as this trend is concerned, I expect freight volumes to develop in a similar way for the rest of the year."
Grzegorz added: “Along with the continuous growth of our customer base and the strong development of international airfreight volumes, we’ve been able to further increase our market share at Shanghai Pudong International Airport.”
PACTL processed 49.3% of the air cargo handled at Shanghai Pudong International Airport during the first six months of 2015, making it the largest provider of air cargo handling services at the airport.  
PACTL’s import cargo volumes increased by 14.7% to a total figure of 315,044 tonnes during the first six months in comparison with the same period in 2014. International imports rose by 15.0% to 290,317 tonnes of air cargo, while domestic imports increased by 10.7% to 24,727 tonnes.
The company’s export cargo volumes grew by 8.4% to a figure of 447,060 tonnes. International exports showed a growth rate of 7.6% to 420,109 tonnes, while domestic exports increased by 21.5% to 26,951 tonnes.
