Hong Kong cargo volumes soared 10.1% in August

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded solid growth in August 2017 as cargo traffic "soared" 10.1% to 412,000 tonnes, compared with like month last year.
Exports, which registered a 12% robust increase, were the main driver behind the strong growth in cargo throughput. Transhipments also rose by 10% during the month.
A spokesperson for the HKIA said that, among the key trading regions, Europe and Southeast Asia increased the most significantly.
In the first eight months of 2017, passenger throughput and flight movements increased by 2.2% to 48.8m and 1.3% to 278,455, respectively. Cargo volume at HKIA registered 11.1% year-on-year growth to 3.2m tonnes.
On a rolling 12-month basis, HKIA handled  4.8m tonnes of cargo, recording a year-on-year increase of 10.1%.
