Shanghai’s PACTL had a record breaking October for airfreight

Shanghai Pudong Int’l Airport Cargo Terminal Co Ltd (PACTL) handled 153,607 tonnes in October, a volume growth of 8.9% year-on-year and the highest monthly tonnage in the ground handler’s history.
The largest provider of air cargo handling services at Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) recorded a 3.2% rise in tonnages year to date, the strongest first-ten-months result in the cargo terminal’s history.
Lutz Grzegorz, vice president of PACTL, said: “We managed to significantly grow our international imports and domestic exports in the last couple of months. This is mainly due to the fact that the demand for high-value consumer goods picked up again.
“We noted that long term but also new customers increasingly request our new cool chain facility, continuously developing their range of products in collaboration with PACTL. In line with this positive trend we are confident to achieve another annual record by the end of 2016.”
PACTL’s domestic cargo volumes increased by 12.2% to 9,480 tonnes in October while international cargo grew by 8.7% to 144,127 tonnes. Between January and October, domestic cargo volumes rose by 2.0% to 86,880 tonnes and international cargo increased by 3.3% to 1,267,089 tonnes.
Imports grew by 12.1% to 62,360 tonnes in October and exports rose by 6.9% to 91,247 tonnes compared to the previous year. Overall, imports increased by 5.3% to a total figure of 561,145 tonnes during the first ten months; exports meanwhile increased by 1.8% to 792,824 tonnes.
