Brussels Airport’s cargo on the up in February

Brussels Airport handled 7.7% more cargo traffic in February compared with the same month of last year: a total of 40,696 tons.
The airport authority attributed the increase to “strong growth in the full-freighter segment”, plus an increase in express volumes carried by integrators.
The growth in traffic in the full-freighter segment (up 42.4% year on year to reach 13,822 tons) was achieved with the need for only a minimum number of extra flights (up 6.9% on February 2015) having to be laid on, and all of those extra services were operated during daytime hours.
The growth in express traffic of 7.1% was also achieved, said Brussels Airport Company, with “barely any increase in the number of extra flights”. The gateway handled a total of 17,141 tons of integrator freight in February.
The balance of 9,733 tons of cargo was moved in the bellyhold of airlines’ passenger services. That figure was down 19.3% year on year.
Over the course of the first two months of this year, total cargo throughput increased by 14.6% year on year to reach 85,648 tons.
Full-freighter volumes were up by 61.7% year on year and integrator cargo by 7.4%, but bellyhold cargo was down by 13.9%.
