November cargo surge for Hong Kong and Shanghai airports

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) recorded strong cargo growth in November with a volume increase of 7.1% year on year to 436,000 tonnes, setting a new monthly record.

Said airport management: “Among the key trading regions, traffic to/from Southeast Asia and Europe increased most significantly during the month.”

Passenger volume and flight movements dropped 3.5% and 4.1% from the same period last year to 5.4m and 32,590 respectively.

In the first eleven months of 2016, HKIA’s cargo throughput grew 2.4% from the same period in 2015 to 4.1m tonnes, maintaining its 2015 role as the world’s top airfreight hub by volumes.

Shanghai, the third largest cargo hub in 2015, saw its November airfreight volumes surge 11.1% to 332,000 tonnes, according to figures released by CAPA─Centre for Aviation.
