Chapman Freeborn and Lufthansa Cargo airlift humanitarian aid for Syrian refugees

CHAPMAN Freeborn and Lufthansa Cargo have successfully collaborated on a high-profile charter project which utilised the cargo facility on the site of Germany’s new Berlin Brandenburg Airport, which is still under construction.
The operation – a humanitarian airlift arranged on behalf of the Red Cross – was the first time the new cargo centre has been used for an ad hoc charter project.
The flight was jointly coordinated by Chapman Freeborn and Lufthansa Cargo and represents the latest in a number of charter projects since the two companies announced a strategic cooperation agreement earlier this year.
More than 45 tonnes of humanitarian cargo was loaded onto a Lufthansa Cargo MD-11F aircraft for the flight to Amman, Jordan.
The consignment included vital materials for setting up a field hospital in the Azraq refugee camp in Jordan which accommodates around 130,000 civilians from the Syrian civil war zone.
Representatives from Chapman Freeborn and Lufthansa Cargo were present to ensure the loading process ran smoothly and the flight departed on schedule from Schönefeld Airport.
Bettina Kaufmann, general manager of Chapman Freeborn Germany, says: "The time-efficient execution of this project is attributed to the good cooperation with our partner Lufthansa Cargo, which allowed the rapid deployment of the aircraft. Both companies worked hand-in-hand to deliver the much-needed relief supplies as soon as possible."
