Harrell to lead UPS freight forwarding arm in Europe

UPS has named Michael Harrell as president of freight forwarding for Europe.
Harrell will be responsible for the strategy, performance and revenue growth of the US parcel and logistics giant’s freight forwarding services across Europe. He will report to Nando Cesarone, president of UPS Europe.
“Mike has the global perspective and industry experience needed to lead our freight forwarding business,” said Cesarone, adding: “His proven track record in leadership positions and his in-depth understanding of UPS operations will ensure he can help our customers grow their business and get their products to new customers in new markets.”
The freight forwarding unit includes sales and operations for airfreight, ocean freight, and specialised transportation services enabled through cutting-edge customer technology solutions.
“Our customers rely on our knowledge and integrated network to reach global markets efficiently,” said Harrell, adding: “Freight continues to present good opportunities for us in Europe and around the world and I look forward to ensuring that UPS keeps offering all customers here the broadest, most efficient and most reliable logistics services available.
"Our freight services let companies of any size and from any industry segment get to market faster, capture more business, and boost their competitiveness.”
Harrell, a US citizen, began his career in logistics with the US-based shipping company Fritz, where he held several management positions in Belgium, Russia, and Kuwait.
In 2001, he became the Middle East freight Manager based in Dubai (UAE), when UPS acquired Fritz. Two years later, Harrell moved to Madrid to become UPS Supply Chain Solutions (SCS) area manager for Southern Europe, Central Europe, the Middle East and Africa.
In 2008, he was promoted to operations manager for UPS SCS Europe, based in Milan, Italy. Two years later, Harrell was named country manager for UPS Turkey, and in 2014 became country manager for UPS France, before assuming his current position.
