ROBUST freight traffic, driven primarily by the emerging markets, made August Heathrow Airport’s busiest ever month, writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.

Cargo was up 7.5 per cent overall, increasing 58 per cent to Turkey, 33 per cent to Russia, 32 per cent to Brazil, 30 per cent to Mexico and 16 per cent to China.

Heathrow’s chief executive John Holland-Kaye comments: “Strong cargo performance to emerging markets underline why British business is backing Heathrow.

“Heathrow is the only expansion option capable of delivering direct links to emerging markets like China that will be critical to future jobs, trade and economic growth in the UK.”
