10th B747-8F for Cargolux

CARGOLUX is taking delivery of its latest B747-8 freighter from Boeing.
The aircraft, registered LX-VCK and named ‘City of Contern’, is the tenth in a total order of 14.
‘The delivery has helped us bring down the average age of our fleet – already one of the youngest in the industry – to a mere 5.8 years,” enthuses Dirk Reich, chief executive of the all-cargo airline.
“Apart from the increased fuel efficiency and reduced noise footprint, the B747-8F is the ideal aircraft for the implementation of our dual hub strategy between Zhengzhou and Luxembourg,” he adds.
The airline’s goal is to operate multiple daily connections between both locations using the B747-8F. Cargolux also operates 11 B747-400 freighters.
The new type has performed “extremely well” in Cargolux service, achieving an average utilisation of nearly 16 hours a day in 2013, he reveals.
The airline expects to take delivery of its 11th B747-8F later this year.
