747-8F given all clear

A FAULT which forced a Dreamliner to make an unscheduled landing will not add to 747-8F safety checks engineers have said.
Boeing and GE engineers said last night the fault, which caused United flight 1146 from Houston to Newark to land at New Orleans, was not related to the GEnx-1B and GEnx-2B engine shared by the two aircraft.
Earlier this year the US National Transport Safety Board, which issued safety recommendations on the GE engine, criticised carriers for not giving 8F freighters the same level of safety checks.
It has been reported Flight 1146 was diverted because of a generator failure.
