ABX Air to start new daily airfreight operation

ABX Air will start running a daily airfreight service from Chicago Rockford International Airport (RFD) in September for a mystery customer.
The airline will begin operations from the airport on September 8 using Boeing 767 freighters, with plans to expand flights to five times per day by the end of the year.
Pinnacle Logistics will provide ground handling services, but the airline and ground handler said they would not reveal whose cargo will be carried at this time.
As part of the deal, ABX Air will rent space from RFD, which is the 25th busiest cargo airport in the US, in a 72,000sq ft ramp-side warehouse.
“This is exciting news for our region as it will create jobs and continue to put RFD on the map for our exceptional cargo operations,” said Mike Dunn, executive director at RFD.
“We believe that our location, the availability of a warehouse and a ramp as well as the 200,000 square foot MRO facility which will be operated by AAR created a winning combination for this deal.”
ABX Air is owned by Wilmington, Ohio-based ATSG, which hit the headlines earlier this when it won a contract to provide online retailer Amazon with an air cargo network operated by 20 767 freighters.
