Air Partner delivers aid to Iraq

AIR charter broker Air Partner has successfully transported more than 400 tonnes of humanitarian relief to Iraq since the mid August, writes Thelma Etim, deputy editor.
It has been tasked with helping to maintain emergency supplies comprising shelters, consumables, water treatment and water storage units, which are being air-dropped into the region by military aircraft.
The broker has also arranged for the delivery of specially-adapted vehicles for use in hostile environments for the aid workers, says a company statement.
In the past two weeks, Air Partner has chartered nine flights to Iraq – six from the UAE, two from East Midlands and one from Cyprus, using A300 and A310 aircraft.
The team also chartered MD-11F, an IL-76 and Antonov 12 aircraft to deliver much-needed goods from the UK and Dubai into the air operations hub in Cyprus.
Richard Smith, freight director, comments: “We are used to reacting very quickly to humanitarian situations like this. Conditions can change hour by hour – which means lead times are usually very short. As a result, our clients need a 24-hour capability – something our team can deliver 365 days a year.
“Our network of global offices also means that we can scale up our response very quickly – for instance during the Arab Spring we moved 12,000 people and 300 tonnes of aid in just six weeks.”
