Central China’s Shennongjia Forest District in Hubei Province will start constructing an airport in April at a cost of 1.04 billion yuan (US$157 million). The airport will have an annual capacity of 1,500 tonnes of cargo on completion in 2013.

2011 got off to a promising start at Denver International Airport with a cargo increase of 2.6 per cent in January, reaching 43,843,283 pounds of total cargo handled, compared to 42,743,710 pounds during the same month last year.

Enlargement of MidAmerica St. Louis Airport in Mascoutah, at a cost of US$2.24 million, will enable the airport to accommodate four 747 freighters on the ground at once. The airport is keen to make MidAmerica a major conduit to China for perishable Midwestern goods, such as beef and grain.
