Al-Maktoum to open in June

ACCORDING to Dubai Airports’ chief executive officer, Paul Griffiths, Al-Maktoum International Airport will open for cargo business in Dubai on 27 June.

“Dubai will no longer be a single airport city,” he said, adding that it will open for passenger traffic early next year.

The airport’s runway has been ready since 2007 and the airport – set to be the world’s largest – itself was supposed to be operational by the end of 2008. When finally complete it will have six runways and handle 120 million passengers a year.

“We are not just creating the largest airport in the world…[It is] also the best,” Griffiths claimed.
