An industry failing to get the message
FRUSTRATION and widespread irritation at the slow uptake of digitisation was palpable at an air cargo conference on ground handling in Lisbon, Portugal.
Poor computer messaging, a mountain of paper documents, new certification and stricter security regulations generated a heated debate among speakers and delegates.
The fact there are so many different versions of FWB messaging still being used by carriers drew a substantial amount of criticism.
While the recommended version is 16, more than half of airlines around the globe are still utilising version nine. It also became apparent, as the debate raged on, that even versions four to six remain in existence.
“Data inconsistency issues are simply down to how much money you are prepared to invest,” argues Henrik Ambak, head of ground services at Cargolux Airlines.
