ANA eyes cargo profit

ALL Nippon Airways expects its first annual profit in the year started 1 April, as business picks up at the Okinawa hub in Japan.
The carrier will double flights between Tokyo’s Narita Airport and Okinawa to tap growing trade in Asia.
Starting 5 December weekly cargo runs between the two airports will be increased to 12 from the current six. The number between Narita and Taipei (China) will increase to nine flights a week from six.
Economic growth has caused Asia-Pacific cargo shipments to increase more quickly than in Europe or North America last year, IATA figures show.
International cargo volume at All Nippon Airways edged up 0.8 per cent year-over-year in September, a slight recovery after ANA reported its first freight decline in two years the month before.
The growth left cargo tonnage at ANA up 3.9 per cent in the first six months of the fiscal year that started 1 April.
