Atlas accepts two -8Fs

ATLAS Air has taken delivery of the company’s second and third 747-8 freighters.

Together with the first -8F delivered in early November, the three aircraft will be operated for British Airways World Cargo (BAWC) under a long-term aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) contract between BAWC and Global Supply Systems (GSS). Atlas Air Worldwide holds a 49 per cent interest in GSS.

The aircraft are part of Atlas’ order of nine 747-8Fs. The company expects to receive two further 747-8Fs in mid-2012, two in late 2012 and two in the first half of 2013.

Atlas Air Worldwide is the only outsource operator to offer customers the new 747-8F aircraft. Two aircraft will be leased to Panalpina under long-term ACMI contracts.

The 747-8F boasts 16 per cent more revenue cargo volume compared with the 747-400F. The additional 120m3 of volume afforded by the longer fuselage offers space for four additional main-deck pallets and three additional lower-hold pallets.
