BA strike back on

BRITISH Airways’ (BA) cabin crew strike looks to be back on now that a court of appeal has overturned the strike’s previous ban.

BA was granted an injunction earlier this week that prevented its crew from legally striking. The airline’s lawyers had highlighted irregularities in how the strike ballot had been run. However, now the appeal judges have dismissed this ruling as being based on a technicality.

BA says that it is “disappointed” with the ruling while the union Unite’s joint leader, Derek Simpson, said: “This is not a moment for being triumphant. We shouldn’t have been in this process.

“The case brought by BA was trivial and, in my opinion, irresponsible.”

The first of four five-day strikes will now go ahead next Tuesday.

“We will implement our contingency plan to keep British Airways flying,” the company declared.
