China Southern in codesharing talks

CHINA Southern Airlines is in negotiations with Air France and US Delta Air Lines to code share on some routes. Since becoming a member of SkyTeam, China Southern has made a similar agreement with KLM on the Amsterdam (The Netherlands) and Guangzhou (China) routes.

Zhao Xiao, general manager of China Southern’s international affairs department, said he hoped to open a similar route between Guangzhou and Paris. However, the carrier may run into problems with any agreement with Delta, which will need approval from the US anti-monopoly supervision department.

The Chinese carrier has recently become the first airline from mainland China to become a member of SkyTeam Cargo. It expects to complete its membership before November of this year.

Once finalised, the carrier will begin flying cargo services to various European and US destinations, using two 747-200 and two 747-400 freighters. Three 777 freighters are expected to come on line this summer.
