Chinese carriers descend on Dallas

AIR China Cargo is boosting transhipment links to the US with a service between Dallas/Fort Worth (US) and Shanghai (China).
The 747-400F, which can carry two crews and 110 tons (99.7 metric tonnes) of freight, will carry mostly mobile phones, flat-screen televisions, scientific instruments, manufacturing machinery and oil-and-gas well equipment.
Air China Cargo will visit three times a week starting from Shanghai to Anchorage (Canada) for fuelling and service. It will then undertake the Dallas-Chicago O’Hare (US)-Anchorage-Shanghai route.
“It’s another new addition and it’s flying directly into Shanghai, China, which is a very important commercial centre,” Jeff Fegan, Dallas Airport chief executive officer, said.
The new service makes up less than five per cent of the airport’s cargo business but this adds to other inbound Chinese carriers. China Cargo also connects at the airport with Beijing (China) and Shanghai with five to six roundtrip flights per week.
