Death at a cargo terminal

SAFETY concerns around the construction of Indian airport cargo terminals reached a new height following the death of a worker.

Ramroop Sak fell from a height of 25 feet while handling a plank of steel at the Indira Gandhi International Airport’s (IGI) cargo terminal 1B on 3 March.

This is the fourth such incident reported at IGI over the last year, the two earlier ones being at the Aerocity project.

The victim’s co-worker has made allegations against the contractor, claiming that safety measures were not in order.

“I have been working here for the past two months but our company has not provided us with any safety gear,” construction worker Pradeep Kumar comments. “We have complained to the management several times but to no avail. They never pay any attention to us. This happened because of their carelessness.”

The airport police force says it will likely make arrests this week.
