Delta’s fine freight figures

DURING 2011 Delta Airlines’ freight business operating revenue jumped 21 per cent, reaching US$1 billion.

The carrier recorded an eight per cent growth, year-over-year, in the fourth quarter rising by $20 million to $256 million. The cargo increase is incorporated into the airline’s total net income for the quarter, which leapt $221 million, year-over-year, to $379 million.

“Delta’s solid cost performance, in an environment of 25 per cent higher market fuel prices, came as a result of our cost-reduction initiatives and benefits from our fuel hedging programme,” Hank Halter, Delta’s chief financial officer, says. “We are focused on total cost productivity, including fuel, and implementing the structural initiatives needed to return our non-fuel costs to our targeted level.”
