e-freight goes live in China

TIANJIN Binhai International Airport has become China’s first airport to implement the international e-freight standard, with China Cargo Airlines the first Chinese carrier to accept an international shipment using it.
e-freight eliminates the need to send 12 core paper documents with air cargo shipments, hence streamlining processes, improving speed and reliability and cutting costs.
International and local forwarders involved in the Chinese operation were Sinotrans, Dimerco, Kerry Logistics, Cosco, DGF and Expeditors, while the airlines involved were China Cargo Airlines, Air China, Grandstar, EVA and Great Wall.
In addition to the international e-freight program, there are also plans to implement domestic e-freight at six different locations in China in June 2010, with eight major domestic carriers participating in the domestic e-freight programme, namely Guangzhou, Dalian, Shanghai, Xiamen, Shenzhen and Wuxi.
