Eric Born lands top job at Swissport International

Eric Born will be the new group president and chief executive at ground handler Swissport International (SPI), taking up his role from August 2015.
The Swiss national joins from Wincanton, a UK stock exchange-listed logistics company, where he was chief executive for five years from 2010. From 2004 to 2009, Born held senior roles with aviation services provider Gategroup.
Born succeeds Per H. Utnegaard who, after eight years in the top job, will now take on the role of vice chairman of the SPI board of directors.
SPI said in a statement: “Eric has a very strong track record in creating value and delivering sustainable results in private equity owned and publicly listed organisations across retail, logistics and aviation services.”
Born also served as non-executive director at John Menzies, a leading distribution and global aviation services business from 2010 until 2014.
Born holds a BBA from the University of Applied Science in Zurich and a MBA from Simon Business School at the University of Rochester.
Thomas Staehelin, chairman of the SPI board of directors, said: “Under Per Utnegaard’s leadership, Swissport has embarked on a successful growth path – from about 23,000 employees in 2007 to now well over 60,000."
Swissport International provides ground services for around 224m passengers and handles 4.1m tonnes of cargo a year on behalf of some 700 client-companies in the aviation sector.
