Etihad Crystal Cargo record

LAST year Etihad Crystal Cargo carried a record 310,000 metric tonnes, 18 per cent more than in 2010.

The boost of 46,875 tonnes was helped by new routes and freighters.

“In cargo, the strongest growth was seen out of Europe as exports from markets such as Germany and Italy held firm during a challenging back half of the year,” Etihad Airways chief executive officer, James Hogan, says.

The carrier introduced its first 777F during the year with two more now scheduled for delivery in 2013. Crystal Cargo launched freighter services into Amsterdam (the Netherlands), Cairo (Egypt), Djibouti and Kabul and Kandahar (both Afghanistan) during the year. It also increased operations to China and India and boosted Johannesburg (South Africa) to three freighters a week.
