Fashion-conscious DHL pushes for more trade

AT the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week held in New York in September, no models were parading DHL livery, but the company’s forwarding arm was there as the event’s designated logistics provider. DHL Global Forwarding is clearly fashion-conscious, pushing aggressively into the segment’s logistics sector.

The company underscored its focus on the fashion industry with the launch of its “door-to-more” consolidation service and the establishment of so-called “centres of excellence”. The former consolidates multiple vendor shipments for the international leg and customs clearance for subsequent deliveries to multiple customers.

Ole Ringheim, senior vice-president and global head of fashion logistics at DGF, said that the sector is a good fit to the company’s activities and a good complement for its airfreight growth. It accounts for about 10-11 per cent of global transportation spend, he added.
