FedEx to start domestic Indian service

FEDEX has announced that it will start operating a domestic express service in India. This will place it in direct competition with DHL’s BlueDart, Deccan 360 and the soon-to-be-launched QuickJet.FedEx said that India’s growing gross domestic product (GDP), as well as developing demand for airfreight, supported the decision.FedEx India will start by offering deliveries from 14 cities to 50 others.“To start with, we will cater to all important centres, which constitute 60 per cent India’s GDP,” said Indranil Sen, managing director of marketing for the Middle East, the Indian subcontinent and Africa. “We will soon expand. India is a high-growth market and it is driven by domestic consumptionFedEx only provides a domestic service in three other countries: China, Mexico and the UK.
