Frankfurt perishables centre celebrates 20 years

Perishable Center Frankfurt (PCF) has celebrated its 20th anniversary.
PCF operates temperature-controlled logistics at the German hub, with direct access to the airport apron.
Joachim von Winning, managing director of Air Cargo Community Frankfurt, said: "For airfreight at Frankfurt Airport, PCF is a very important factor, from which the hypermarkets, supermarkets and consumers in the Rhine-Main region and beyond enjoy the benefits.
“It is an enormously reliable guarantor of easily perishable goods, whose wide range of services are open to all companies at the location.”
Up to 700 tons of perishable goods are taken every day directly from the aircraft into PCF, where the goods are temporarily stored, cleared through customs, checked and soon after loaded for further transport.
Every year, more than 120,000 tons of meat, fish, shellfish, pharmaceuticals, fruits, vegetables, flowers and plants pass through PCF.
The perishables are handled in 20 strictly-controlled temperature ranges between -24°C and + 24°C. Fast cooling, vacuum cooling, re-freezing and quality control are among the service portfolio offered by PCF.
The next issue of Air Cargo News will have a special feature on the perishables sector
