Frankfurt’s mediocre month

FRANKFURT Airport’s airfreight tonnage saw only a mild rise in July 2011 by 0.3 per cent to 189,000 metric tonnes year-on-year.

“The growth in freight tonnage has slowed, corresponding to the restrained dynamic expected in the worldwide economy,” Fraport AG’s executive board chairman Stefan Schulte said.

This is an improvement against the 6.4 per cent drop in June. The German airport’s first half did not buck July’s trend, registering only a one per cent rise in cargo traffic against the corresponding period in 2010.

The airport was the seventh busiest cargo airport in 2010.
