Ganja airport suspends Russian aircraft

Ganja International Airport in Azerbaijan has suspended all Russian flights following the recent Moscow airport bombing.

The airport’s director Beyler Najafov says the operation of TU-134 (right) and TU-154 in the Baku-Nakhchivan direction has already been suspended. The flights are currently operated on ATR, Airbus and Boeing. French and US aircraft are stepping in for internal and external flights.

The suspension could mean a setback for the airport’s boost in 2010 cargo volumes, reaching 966 tons for the year against 665 tons in 2009.
