Greece blocks airfreight

FOLLOWING the failed al-Qaeda bomb plots last week further, but unrelated, cargo bombs have been sent from Greek Leftist groups around Europe. The bombs have forced the Greek government to suspend all overseas mail and parcels sent by air.

Parcel bombs exploded at the Russian and Swiss embassies in Athens this week and others were intercepted en route to the German chancellor’s office, Europol and the European Court of Justice. Another, addressed to French president Nicolas Sarkozy, was discovered in the possession of suspects arrested by Greek police.

“Following a recommendation by Greek police, Greek aviation authorities decided to suspend the shipment of mail and packages abroad for 48 hours, aiming to make checks,” Greek police said in a statement.
