GSA buys into Africa West

DUBAI GSA Global Investments has bought 51 per cent of Togo-based cargo airline Africa West.

Industry veteran Issa Baluch (pictured) will now become chairman of the company. Yannick Erbs will remain chief executive officer.

Dubai-based Air Cargo Trader will continue to act as Africa West’s GSA in the UAE, India, as well as other Asian countries.

“This is a very exciting time for Africa West as we welcome the new management team led by Issa Baluch,” Erbs said. “We have known each other for a long time and have collaborated in numerous projects involving airfreight into Africa so this alliance feels very natural.”

The cargo airline has recently added two new destinations to its network – Freetown (Sierra Leone) and Monrovia (Liberia). It operates freighter services from Europe, Asia and the Middle East direct to Lomé; and has recently started new direct operations from the US and Milan (Italy) with an MD-11F.
