HKs AAT sees encouraging uplift

HONG Kong’s Asia Airfreight Terminal (AAT) has reported that its July tonnage was down 20 per cent compared to the same month last year.

Export cargo was down 24 per cent to 27,946 tonnes and import 14,289 tonnes, a decline of 13 per cent. Trans-shipment cargo was up 31 per cent to 501 tonnes.

The cumulative tonnage throughput from January to July 2009 was 261,311 tonnes, representing a year-on-year decrease of 27.5 percent.

Accumulated export cargo volume was 168,222 tonnes, recorded a decrease of 30.7 percent while import cargo volume was 90,201 tonnes, down 21.7 percent over the respective period last year.

The total transhipment volume up to July was 2,888 tonnes, up 15.1 percent against same period last year

Nelson Lee, AAT’s general manager, planning and services said that the market seems to have stabilised and hopes that improvement will follow.
