Hong Kong bounce

BOSSES at Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (HACTL) have hailed a return to “consistent” growth.
Lilian Chan, HACTL executive director, says the major Asian hub is turning the corner – showing progressively improving figures for the first time since February last year.
“The recovery trend in our total figures continues,” says Chan.
“Exports are holding their own, while it is through shipments, which are showing steady growth, and are now regularly on a level with imports.”
During the first six months 2012 export volume to the Middle East and South East Asia exceeded the same period in 2011 – as did through cargo.
The same two regions bolstered imports too, contributing to a 7.2 per cent growth rate in imports at HACTL, although Chan admitted overall figures were down in this area with Europe showing a year on year decline of 13.2 per cent.
