IAG Cargo boosts Cape Town services

IAG CARGO is offering belly-hold capacity on three additional flights on its busy London Heathrow-Cape Town route, bringing the total number of weekly frequencies on the sector to 10.
The new flights, serviced by a B777-200ER passenger jet, will benefit businesses in the region by enabling greater capacity across the entire year, where other carriers typically only supply additional capacity seasonally, reveals Tony Snell, the airline’s regional commercial manager for the region.
South Africa is a key global market for IAG Cargo, where it holds good marketshare in a number of verticals, including perishables, automotive, clothing and the transport of live animals.
“Since the departure of the home carrier from the route we have offered a valuable service to businesses in the region, connecting them to London and the other 350 destinations on our global network,” says Snell.
This increase in frequency follows the announcement of additional routes to Austin, Texas and Chengdu, China as well as additional routes and frequencies into strong cargo markets including India, Mexico and Hong Kong.
The news follows the all-cargo arm of British Airways and Iberia terminating (effective from the end of April) its deal with Global Supply Systems (GSS), under which it has three leased B747-8Fs.
IAG Cargo has instead signed a long-term agreement with Oneworld partner Qatar Airways to purchase capacity on Qatar-operated freighters. From May, Qatar will operate five B777F flights a week between Hong Kong and London on behalf of IAG Cargo, providing continuity of service.
