JAL cuts fuel surcharges

JAPAN Airlines (JAL) is to decrease its fuel surcharge for international cargo flights departing Japan from 1 April, 2009.

JAL will reduce the surcharge for long-haul international routes from ¥115 to ¥31 per kg. For medium-haul international routes, the surcharge will drop from ¥99 to ¥27 per kg, and on short-haul routes it will go from ¥83 to ¥23 per kg.

JAL has also applied to the Japanese government to set fuel surcharge levels, not quarterly but monthly based on the one-month average fuel price of Singapore kerosene of the month before last.

If approved this will come into effect from 1 April, 2009.
