Joint venture and Rohlig and Tricon

MULTI-modal freight forwarding companies Rohlig and Tricon have formed a 50-50 joint venture.

Bremen-based Rohlig and Chennai-based Tricon will be joined in the venture with another transport and logistics company – Gebruder Weiss, which will hold a 25 per cent stake in the partnership. Rohlig will also hold 25 per cent and Tricon will be the majority stake holder with 50 per cent.

Rohlig-Weiss’ network covers the Americas, Europe, Australia and countries in Asia like China, Thailand, Taiwan and Japan. “India contributes to less than two per cent of our business now and we weren’t confident of increasing our presence in this country with not much of an idea about its diverse markets,” said Rohlig managing partner Thomas Herwig. “It was natural for us to tie up with our exclusive partner here.”

“By this joint venture, we aim to multiply our turnover by four in the next five years,” said Tricon managing director B R Rangamani.

In 2007/08, Tricon carried 5,000 tonnes of airfreight to Europe and America and posted a revenue of Rs1 billion (US$20.5 million).
