Kalitta mourns loss of Scott

Scott Kalitta, son of Connie Kalitta, the founder of US freight airline Kalitta Air, was killed in a motor racing accident on 21 June. Scott was head of Kalitta Charters and was heavily involved in the running of the airline.

Scott died when his DHL-sponsored Funny Car crashed and burst into flames during the final round of qualifying for the Lucas Oil NHRA SuperNationals at Old Bridge Township Raceway Park, New Jersey. Witnesses state that the car was travelling at some 300 mph at the time of the crash.

His father, Connie Kalitta, was a longtime supporter of drag racing as a driver and team owner and was known in racing circles as “The Bounty Hunter”. He built up Kalitta Air from nothing into one of the largest B747 freighter operators in the world.
