LAX sees first freight gain in two years

LOS Angeles International Airport (LAX) has recorded its first increase in freight traffic since November 2007.Freight tonnage for September was up 2.5 per cent, to 141,076 metric tons, compared to the same month last year. September was also up 3.7 per cent from August, the fifth consecutive monthly increase. This leaves the airport’s year-to-date freight traffic down 14.3 per cent compared to the same period a year ago.With LAX being a major gateway for trans-Pacific traffic into the US, its traffic tonnage improvement is encouraging for the whole industry. However, as the figures near the worst months, which were all a year ago, the comparative improvement will become less impressive.
