Panalpina upgrades to -8F

FORWARDER Panalpina will lease two 747-8Fs from Atlas Air.

The multi-year aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance contract will see the aircraft enter service in the first half of 2012, operating in Panalpina’s airfreight network.

The company will use the new aircraft, replacing two 747-400Fs, to meet industry specific requirements and the increasing demand for large-freighter capacity, especially in the healthcare, hi-tech, automotive and oil and gas industries.

“The upgrade is expected to deliver improved, next-generation performance in terms of payload, fuel efficiency, total cost per tonne-mile and environmental impact,” Matthias Frey, global head of own-controlled airfreight network at Panalpina, said.

The aircraft will carry the names ‘Spirit of Panalpina’ and ‘Passion for Solutions’.
