Qatar rolls out red carpet for equine athletes

Qatar Airways Cargo has flown 100 of the world’s finest equine athletes to Doha for the annual Chi Al Shaqab event on 2-4 March.
Chi Al Shaqab consists of three days of jumping, dressage and para-dressage, where the world’s best horses and riders battle for one of the most coveted titles in the equestrian calendar.
The horses were transported back to Amsterdam on board the carrier’s B777 freighters with the QR Live service guaranteeing the care, comfort and safety of the four-legged guests.
Qatar Airways’s Doha live animal facility offers air conditioned holding stalls, a paddock and on-site veterinary personnel. In 2016-17, the carrier transported over 2,300 horses, up 10% over 2015-16.
Qatar Airways’ chief officer cargo, Ulrich Ogiermann, said: “We pride ourselves in providing the highest standard of service for our equine guests, on the ground and in the air. The team handling live animals is thoroughly trained and work in accordance with IATA’s live animal regulations to provide the most comfortable journey for the horses. Each horse is treated with the utmost care and attention and our customers can count on us for safe and reliable transportation.”
